I would add Murphy and Martinook to your list. Of course if some amazing trade came along they could be bumped off, but the key word is amazing. Martinook and Murphy are valuable players, either as key depth on the team, or as trade chips as we finalize the core of our roster.
Personally I think both are on the team for a decade cause management loves them, but never say never. |

You make him look good. You might be better at missing the point than he is. |

Is Nashville really in trouble? They can go 4-4 right? Forsberg, RyJo, Arvidsson, Neal protected as forwards and their top 4 at the back. Don't think they would really be upset if they would lose a guy like Jarnkrok and maybe they can throw in something for Vegas to take Smith. If I was Nashville I would never give up these top 4 Dmen. |

If someone wanted Murphy's ridiculous six year contract, you don't want to stop them. I like Martinhook too. More than I like Reider actually, just forgot him. |

It's going to suck to lose Calle Jarkrok, he's close to elite defensively and he's got the absolute best contract, value wise, in the NHL. Definitely a guy all 29 other teams should be trying to get. |

James I get not mentioning specifics and it is just a premise.
Though when you mention pomminville and dumba for a 1st that's silly imo. |

I think you're underestimating the value of taking on a bad contract at this specific point and time for the Wild, who have a window to contend and can't really afford for the expansion draft to cost them Nino, Backlund or Zucker. They're probably the worst situated team for expansion and taking on Pomminville's deal, which there are only a couple of teams that even could, would save them big time.
If that's an overpayment, it ain't by much. |

Dumba is a big piece. It is "by much"
Any decent defenseman is a hot commodity. They aren't sweeteners. |

maybe I am though maybe you are overestimating it. we shall see.
don't think they pay that price is all. |

Honest question, can anyone name trades that happened where a good young NHL playing talent was included in a trade where a bad contract was unloaded? These ideas got tossed around more than salad but never happen |

You're massively underestimating the value of salary cap space + the fact that it's not just cap space, but taking Pomminville lets them protect another piece.
So if they trade Pomminville and it costs them Dumba,
they still get to keep Suter, Spurgeon, Scandella and Brodin.
MN has 4 players with NM clauses and are pretty screwed - if the cost is Dumba and they get to keep all four previously mentioned D and Coyle, Nino and Backland, I don't think that is unreasonable.

The Red Wings paid a first rounder to get rid of Datsyuk's contract. That's the closest I can think of off the top of my head, but there might be more.
I think there's a good chance something like that can happen with the expansion draft looming . |

Teravainen for the Bickell contract comes to mind. He's a decent 3C/top six winger on a lot of teams. |

You could be right - it's very hard to measure the value of freeing up cap-space normally, let alone when there is an expansion draft.
But the Red Wings paid Jacob Chychrun to get rid of Datsyuk's cap hit, and I'd rather have him than Dumba, and there wasn't an expansion draft happening either when that went down.

no they flipped draft positions did they not? wings still got a 1st and 53rd overall no?
so that isn't ad lopsided as you think. in fact by your logic the coyotes GM should have got a lot more.
